Abstract
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly reshaping parenting practices and baby product consumption by embedding data-driven guidance into everyday decision-making. From prenatal monitoring applications and smart baby devices to personalized product recommendations and digital parenting platforms, AI now influences how caregivers interpret infant needs, select products, and structure caregiving routines. This chapter critically explores how algorithmic systems transform parental instincts into technologically mediated choices, creating both convenience and dependency. It highlights ethical concerns related to data privacy, bias, surveillance parenting, consumer manipulation, and growing socio-economic inequalities in access to AI-enabled tools. While AI offers efficiency, personalized insights, and enhanced support, it simultaneously risks diminishing intuitive caregiving, narrowing consumer choice, and commercializing early childhood experiences. The chapter argues for a balanced approach where AI complements rather than replaces human judgment, emotional connection, and cultural wisdom. Ultimately, responsible integration of AI is essential to preserve the humanity of parenting in an increasingly coded world.
