Abstract
This chapter deals the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in shaping the future of education, highlighting both its significant potential and the complex challenges it introduces. Drawing from advances in machine learning, generative AI, adaptive learning systems, and intelligent tutoring frameworks, the chapter investigates how AI-driven tools are reshaping pedagogical practices, learner engagement, assessment methodologies, and institutional decision-making. It explores key drivers of AI adoption—including personalization, automation, data-informed instruction, and inclusive learning design—while critically addressing concerns related to algorithmic bias, data privacy, ethical governance, and digital inequalities. The chapter analyzes AI-powered customization and adaptive assessment mechanisms that enable individualized learning pathways, real-time feedback loops, and enhanced student motivation. It also reviews the evolving role of teachers in AI-enriched environments, emphasizing how intelligent systems support classroom management, promote digital literacy, assist in identifying learner differences, and strengthen teacher–student interactions. Further, the chapter assesses the design and impact of Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITS), demonstrating how they foster computational thinking and provide scalable, tutor-like guidance. Additional sections investigate the integration of AI in teamwork and project-based learning, showing how AI augments collaboration, creativity, and problem-solving while raising important academic integrity considerations. The chapter also addresses the promise and limitations of AI in overcoming linguistic and cultural barriers, particularly in multilingual and special-needs education. By synthesizing technological, pedagogical, ethical, and socio-cultural dimensions, this chapter provides a comprehensive framework for understanding AI’s emerging role in education and offers strategic insights for policymakers, educators, and technologists committed to building equitable, future-ready learning ecosystems.
